The Calcutta Boys' School provides education for boys from Nursery (age 4+) to Class Twelve (age 18+). It is affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi, and prepares students for the Indian Certificate for Secondary Education Examination (10 year course) and the Indian School Certificate Examination (12 Year Course). The School is recognized by the Government of West Bengal through the Deputy Director of School education, Anglo- Indian Schools.
The Subjects taught are as follows:
English-Language & Literature, Hindi-Language & Literature, Bengali, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History/Civics, Geography, Economics, Commerce, Accounts, Computer Science, Art/ Craft, Music, General Knowledge.
A high standard of education/instruction is maintained by a fully trained and qualified staff. The main aim of the School is to provide boys with a sound moral, physical and intellectual education.
The Calcutta Boys' School does not encourage private tuitions to CBS students by members of the CBS teaching or office staff or any member of their families. Parents/ Guardians are hereby notified NOT TO APPROACH the Teaching/ Office (or their family members) to give or arrange for private tuition to any student of CBS. Wilful negligence on this count will lead to disciplinary action against the student concerned.
Assessment Procedure :
Classes I to Class IV: NO formal examination or terminal tests are conducted. Students are assessed on 2 class assignments comprising 50 marks each, conducted during the course of the two semesters I and II. The final total is on 200 marks. All students who perform satisfactorily and obtain the minimum grade required i.e. 40% and above will be promoted to the next class.
Classes V to VIII:Students are assessed twice a year, i.e. I & II Semester. Each semester include one class test of 20 marks and one examination of 80 marks. The final total is on 200 marks. Promotion of a student is determined on the basis of his total performance during the entire academic year.
Students are marked on all of their work in the class projects & assignments, written work, oral & aural work, test response and preparation of daily work at home and in school.
Classes IX to XII:Students are assessed thrice a year, i.e. Assessment I & II and the Final Examination/ Pre-Board (Rehearsal) Examinations. Each Assessment/Examination paper is of 100 marks and are set as per the Council Regulations/Rubrics.
